MINK!

Told by her daughter Wendy, MINK! chronicles the remarkable Patsy Takemoto Mink, a Japanese American from Hawaii who became the first woman of color elected to the U.S. Congress, on her harrowing mission to co-author and defend Title IX, the law that transformed athletics for generations in America for girls and women. A Breakwater Studios x Hana Kuma Production and New York Times Op-Doc executive produced by Naomi Osaka.

We spearheaded the creative direction and in-person activations for the New York Times short documentary MINK! in the 2022 awards season. We conceived of the awards campaign as a revival of Patsy Mink’s own political campaigns. On the eve of Patsy’s birthday, we organized a screening of the film in the U.S. Capitol with Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Naomi Osaka, and other distinguished guests in attendance. We also partnered with Hawaii-based Sae Design Group on Patsy merchandise and used visual references from archival campaign materials for the social media lookbook. Note: this project was led by our founder & CCO when he was the full-time Creative Marketing Director at Breakwater Studios.
